A combination of changing technology, regulating action and developing human capacity is needed in order to meet future requirements.
With 30-50% of the total amount of energy used in stores, refrigeration is the largest contributor to the food retail’s overall environmental impact. Commercial refrigeration is responsible for approximately 1/3 of the demand for hydrofluorocarbons in the EU. High-Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants are responsible for 18-30% of the overall carbon emissions in EU stores. Natural refrigerants are therefore an environmentally friendly alternative.
